SASSA disburses three main types of childcare grants in South Africa. The most common is the South African Child Support Grant, which currently assists around 14 million recipients with a monthly payment of R530. This amount was recently increased by the government. The other two grant types are the Child Care Dependency Grant for disabled children and the Foster Child Support Grant for court-appointed foster parents.

May 2024 SASSA Child Grants

If you’re considering applying for a SASSA Child Support Grant, here are the recommendations from Status Check:

  • You must pass a means test to qualify for the May 2024 SASSA child grants. This test requires that your annual income be less than R105,600 or R8,800 per month if married, and R52,800 or R4,400 per month if single.
  • It’s important to note that individuals cannot receive both the Child Support Grant and the Foster Child Grant simultaneously from SASSA.
  • The means test ensures that funds are allocated to those who genuinely need support for their children.
