As South Africa bids farewell to January, SASSA unveils the grant payment schedule for February. However, beneficiaries of disability and child support grants face a minor setback, with their funds slated to arrive in the second week of February due to the weekend.

Confirmed SASSA grant payment dates for February are as follows:

Older Persons Grant:  Friday, 2 February

Disability Grants: Monday, 5 February

Children’s Grants: Tuesday, 6 February

The announcement follows a challenging January when SASSA encountered difficulties in disbursing 150,000 social grants, including child and old-age grants. This issue arose at a crucial time when many relied on these funds for work preparations and the start of the 2024 school year.

SASSA spokesperson Passkey Letsatsi attributed the payment failure on 10 January to verification delays, with some beneficiaries providing incorrect details that didn’t match the registered information with the bank, or errors in names. To prevent incorrect grants from being disbursed, payments had to be temporarily suspended.

Despite SASSA’s explanation, Action SA condemned the payment failure, emphasizing the real human costs associated with such disbursement challenges. The party’s spokesperson, Lerato Ngobeni, urged SASSA to provide technical assurance on resolving the issues promptly and ensuring immediate payments to affected recipients.

Amidst these challenges, there is positive news for expired SASSA gold card users. Postbank assures that even if the beneficiaries’ SASSA gold cards have expired, they remain valid and will function seamlessly throughout 2024.

As beneficiaries gear up for the February payment cycle, it’s essential to anticipate potential delays and stay informed about any updates or resolutions from SASSA. The commitment to addressing challenges and ensuring timely payments remains crucial for the well-being of vulnerable communities relying on these grants.
