Today marks the beginning of the collection period for June SASSA grants for South African recipients. The announcement comes after the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) unveiled the payment schedule for the 2024/25 financial year.
Payment Sequence
SASSA follows a specific sequence for grant payments:
- Elderly, Child, and Disability Grants: The first week of the month is allocated for these grants.
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grants: Following the initial grants, SRD grant recipients, and all other grants are distributed.

Confirmed SASSA Grants Increases for 2024
Permanent social grants have been increased to align with inflation and ensure broader access:
- A R100 increment for old age, war veterans, disability, and care dependency grants. This increment will be split, with R90 effective from June and R10 effective from October.
- A R50 raise for the foster care grant.
- A R20 hike for the child support grant.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana affirmed the increase in permanent SASSA grants during his 2024 Budget Speech to Parliament.
Improvements to the SRD Grant Expected by June
Acknowledging the rising cost of living for the nearly 19 million South Africans relying on these grants, Godongwana announced plans to enhance the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant by June.
He emphasized that these improvements will be accommodated within the current fiscal framework, with ongoing collaboration between the National Treasury and the Department of Social Development.
