Make sure to note the following payment dates for Older Person’s Grants, Disability Grants, and Children’s Grants in June 2024.
Overview
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is responsible for providing financial support to disadvantaged individuals in need. SASSA currently serves approximately 29 million people in South Africa. This includes 4 million old-age pensioners, 13 million childcare beneficiaries, 10 million Social Relief of Distress (SRD) recipients, and about 2 million individuals with disabilities and war veterans.
Beneficiaries can access their SASSA payments at selected supermarkets like Pick n Pay, Boxer, USave, Checkers, and Shoprite, using their SASSA card, CashSend, or through direct bank transfers.
June 2024 Payment Dates
SASSA’s June 2024 payments will be distributed this week. Here are the specific dates for each grant:
- Older Person’s Grants: Tuesday, 4 June
- Disability Grants: Wednesday, 5 June
- Children’s Grants (and all other grants): Thursday, 6 June

Types of SASSA Grants and Amounts
1. SRD Grant
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant is for South African citizens, asylum seekers, refugees, and special permit holders aged 18 to 60. To qualify, individuals must not receive any other social grants, unemployment insurance, or financial support. The grant amount is R350 per month.
2. Child Support Grant
This grant helps financially needy caregivers (parents, grandparents, or children over 16 leading a family) to raise children. The amount is R510 per month per child. For orphaned children, the grant is R750 per month (R500 CSG plus a R250 top-up).
3. Foster Child Support
This grant is for caregivers of foster children placed in their care by the court due to being orphaned, abandoned, abused, at risk, or neglected. The grant amount is R1,130 per month per child.
4. Care Dependency Grant
This grant supports caregivers of children with severe disabilities requiring full-time care. It is available until the child reaches 18 years of age and amounts to R2,090 per month per child.
5. Disability Grant
This grant is available to individuals with mental or physical disabilities that prevent them from working for more than six months. Temporary disability grants cover six to twelve months, while permanent grants cover more than twelve months. The maximum amount is R2,090 per month.
6. Pensioners Grant (Older Person’s Grant)
This grant is for individuals aged 60 or older who can no longer work. Those aged 60 to 75 receive R2,090 per month, while those over 75 receive R2,100 per month.
7. Grant-In-Aid
This grant is for individuals on a social grant who cannot care for themselves, providing R510 per month to pay for a full-time caregiver.
8. War Veteran’s Grant
This grant is for former soldiers who fought in the Second World War (1939-1945) or the Korean War (1950-1953) and are unable to support themselves financially. The grant amount is R2,110 per month.

- Amounts are subject to change in April and October each year.
- Recipients of Older Person’s or Disability grants will receive all linked grants first, while other beneficiaries will be paid one or two days later.
- Only qualifying beneficiaries will receive monthly payouts.
